Reflection Part A

My experience in ENG2003: Effective Engineering Communication has been both educational and practical. Before taking this course, I believed communication in engineering mainly involved writing reports or giving presentations. However, throughout the semester I learned that communication is a much broader skill that involves understanding the audience, presenting ideas clearly, and maintaining professionalism in different forms of communication.

At the beginning of the course, I expected ENG2003 to focus mostly on writing technical reports. While report writing was an important component, the course also covered several other important communication skills such as presentations, professional emails and organising technical information effectively. This broadened my understanding of communication in engineering and helped me realise how important clear communication is in professional environments.

One of the most useful topics covered in the course was the concept of the Seven C's of Communication. These principles emphasise that communication should be clear, concise, concrete coherent, complete and courteous. Applying these principles helped me improve the way I structure my writing my presentations. For example, when working on my technical report about artificial intelligence in healthcare, I focused on presenting information clearly and avoiding unnecessary details. This helped make the report easier to understand and more professional.

Another concept that I would interesting was the Axioms of communication . These axioms explain that communication always carries both information and meaning, and that it occurs even when we may not intentionally communicate something. Understanding these principles helped me become more of how tone, structure and presentation can influence how a message is interpreted by others.

The presentation assignment was also one of the most valuable parts of the course. Creating presentation slides required careful organisation of information and consideration of how the audience would understand the material. I learned that slides should highlights key point rather than include too much text. This helped me improve my ability to present ideas visually and communicate information more effectively.

Overall, ENG2003 met and even exceeded my expectations. The course helped me develop practical communication skills that are directly applicable to engineering and other professional environments. It also helped me understand that strong communication is an essential part of being an effective engineer.

"This project allowed for significant personal and academic development, pushing boundaries and fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter."
